Census tracts
Census tracts
The Census Bureau divides the country into 85,382 census tracts. The median tract had 3,789 residents in 2020-2024; 853 hold no residents at all (water, parks, airports). Tract numbers repeat from county to county, so a tract is named by its 11-digit GEOID: two digits for the state, three for the county, six for the tract.
How do I find a census tract?
Type an address into the tract lookup (it asks the Census Bureau's own geocoder), or enter the tract's 11-digit GEOID below. Every county page lists its tracts by number.
